The Glass Thief: a romantasy adventure you write with Kael
The Glass Thiefwith KaelAn exiled fae prince offers to guide you out of the borderwood before moonset. His price: three true answers.20-min readSpiceOpen the bookThe path you came by is gone. Where it was, there is only birch and thorn and a mist that has started to glow faintly blue, the way the inside of a lantern does just before it’s lit.
Somewhere far behind the trees, a hunting horn sounds. Then another, closer.
“I’d stop walking, if I were you.” The voice comes from above.
A man sits on a low branch of an old oak as if he’s been there for a century and is mildly bored by it. Long black hair tied back with a fraying ribbon. Pointed ears. A bandolier of small glass vials across his chest, a few of them glowing like trapped fireflies. A thin silver scar circles his throat.
He drops to the ground without a sound and studies you, pale grey eyes narrowed. “That mist eats the careless.
The paths in this wood rearrange themselves at moonset, and those horns belong to people who would very much like to find me. Which is unfortunate for you, since you’re standing next to me.”
He turns an empty vial between his fingers. “I know the way out. I’ll take you there before the moon goes down. My price is three true answers, questions of my choosing.” A thin smile. “Negotiate, if you like. But do it quickly.”
